Terry J. Happel, M.D., F.A.C.S., is the Chief Medical Officer for Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers. Dr. Happel serves as Dignity Health’s principal medical advisor for its East Valley market, ensuring quality healthcare to one of the fastest growing communities in the country.
Prior to assuming this current position in 2001, Dr. Happel practiced reconstructive surgery of the hand and microsurgery in Chandler. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wyoming and his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Happel completed his post-graduate surgical training at the University of Arizona and a fellowship program in hand surgery at the University of New Mexico. He also served as a flight surgeon in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged as a Lt. Commander in 1969.
Dr. Happel was recognized among the “Best Doctors in America” for the Pacific Region and was selected several times in Phoenix Magazine by fellow physicians as one of the five best hand surgeons in the Phoenix area. He is certified with the American Board of Surgery and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Arizona Medical Association, the American Society for Surgery for the Hand, and the American College of Physician Executives.
