Preparing for Surgery

A surgery admission nurse will call you prior to your surgery to take your medical history and gather other important information. This information provides documentation of your medical history and will help us develop the optimal treatment plan for you, including surgical procedures, anesthesia and pain management. We will ask you to please tell us the following:

• About any past surgeries, hospitalizations or other significant medical problems you have had or are currently experiencing.
• All of the medications you have taken 10 days prior to your scheduled surgery day. Make sure to include all prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements.
• Your medication allergies, food allergies, or any other allergies you might have, including latex, tape or dyes, and what type of reaction you have.
