Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Expansion
Earlier this year, Chandler Regional completed a $9.9 million cardiac catheterization (cath) laboratory expansion project. As part of the Heart and Vascular Center's Invasive Cardiology Program, the expanded lab will allow Chandler Regional to meet the growing need for cardiac services in our community. Since its inception in 2001, the cardiac cath lab has grown exponentially - from treating 147 patients in the first year to nearly 4,000 patients in 2010. Of those, more than 1,000 cases were angioplasties to alleviate coronary blockages, and another 300 were identified as requiring open heart surgery.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, killing a half million people each year. The expanded cardiac cath lab is housed in a two-story addition on the southwest corner of the hospital contiguous with the existing lab, and includes two new catheterization labs, an additional nine private bed pre/post holding unit, an enhanced central monitoring station and other ancillary support infrastructure.
Chandler Regional has also been singled out by
HealthGrades
, the nation's leading independent health care ratings organization, in its 2011 Hospital Quality in America report as one of the top three highest-performing Phoenix-area hospitals providing cardiac care. Chandler Regional was also awarded the Cardiac Care Excellence Award 2011 and the Coronary Intervention Excellence Award 2011.
